American influencer Amber Kacherian has become the latest visitor to the UK to sample the quintessential British pub experience at Wetherspoons. After being 'highly recommended' the chain by locals, she and her partner visited a branch, where they were struck by the venue's size, the distance to the toilets, and the 'very unique' carpets.
The pair ordered an all-day brunch with black pudding and a steak and kidney pie. They were initially puzzled by the gravy, but fellow diners helpfully explained it should be poured over the pie. While most of the food received positive reviews, the black pudding prompted a grimace.
Summarising their experience in two words, Amber described it as 'authentic' and 'cultural'. She also praised the relaxed atmosphere, contrasting it with the fast pace of American life, noting that Britons 'go to restaurants and sit, have a pint, and talk for hours'.
While some Brits might argue that Wetherspoons is not an 'authentic' pub due to its chain status, its cultural significance in the UK is undeniable, with its floral crockery, sticky tables, and peculiarly priced pints.
