A 73-year-old British tourist has died in the Bahamas after colliding with a rock while riding a jet ski off a private island. The incident occurred on 22 March near Half Moon Cay, a private island stop during a Holland America Line cruise.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported that police on the neighbouring island of Eleuthera were alerted shortly after 1pm by the island manager. Upon arrival, they found the woman had lost control of the jet ski and collided with a rock. The incident has been labelled an accident.
Medical personnel provided assistance but the tourist was pronounced deceased by a local doctor. The cruise line confirmed the passenger was aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam, which had departed Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on 16 March for a 14-day Caribbean itinerary.
Holland America Line expressed condolences and stated they are supporting the family. The accident is under investigation by Bahamian authorities.
