Uber's 'Hitch 'n Ride' Wedding Car Service Launches in 10 UK Cities

Uber has launched its 'Hitch 'n Ride' open-top convertible wedding car service for couples tying the knot at registry offices during the August Bank Holiday.

Service Details and Availability

The service allows couples to step directly from their doorstep into a luxury convertible ride straight to their ceremony and then on to their reception venue. Uber states it is collaborating with 'expert chauffeurs' who will deliver direct transport for the couple and two witnesses. A chilled bottle of premium English sparkling wine will be supplied for the journey between the registry and the reception, they add.

Uber states the service is accessible to couples tying the knot at registry offices in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Glasgow, Newcastle upon Tyne, Nottingham, Bristol, Sheffield and Leicester.

Reasons Behind the Shift

Travel giant Uber claims many couples are abandoning traditional country-estate weddings in favour of sleek, streamlined town hall ceremonies similar to pop star Dua Lipa's nuptials. Research suggests 72% of couples endure significant stress in the run-up to their big day, with 42% having contemplated calling it off entirely. Key factors driving the change include cutting extortionate expenses (28%), maintaining brief and heartfelt vows (24%), and reducing the guest list (23%).

Nevertheless, 72% of brides still insist on an 'iconic, internet-breaking photo moment', while 46% fear a low-key wedding might lack that distinctive 'wow' factor. Uber claims it is intervening to offer registry office couples the ultimate post-ceremony enhancement through rides in their open-top convertible 'Hitch 'n Ride' service.

Cost Savings and Budget Priorities

This announcement follows registry office couples revealing that reducing the conventional guest list saved them an average of £2,171 in venue and catering expenses. They report couples are choosing to redirect that budget towards what truly matters, with 28% allocating it towards house deposits, while 22% are giving priority to dream honeymoons.

Uber UK's general manager, Andrew Brem, said: "At Uber, we believe showing up for our riders matters, whether it's for the everyday trip or one of life's biggest moments. For couples saying 'I do' at their local town hall, 'Hitch 'n Ride' makes getting to the celebration easier, while adding a little extra magic to the journey."

Booking and Operation

'Hitch 'n Ride' will operate exclusively over the August Bank Holiday [August 28-31] throughout the UK. Tickets will become available on www.hitchnride.co.uk at 10am on August 24 on a first-come-first-served basis.
