Tourist Praises Hotel for Removing Towels from Hogged Sunbeds

A British tourist has praised a hotel for taking decisive action against guests who reserve empty sunbeds with towels, a common frustration on holidays. The woman, known as WelshTaiTai on TikTok, shared a video from her holiday in Greece showing hotel staff removing abandoned towels from sunbeds and draping them over a wall, freeing up the beds for other guests.

Hotel Enforces No-Reservation Policy

In the video, she noted that the hotel had a clear sign asking guests not to reserve sunbeds by leaving towels. Despite this, some guests ignored the rule. The hotel staff reportedly gathered the offending towels and placed them aside, prompting the towel owners to appear and act surprised. She commented: "If you're not actually using the sunbed... you don't own it. Simple."

Public Reaction

The clip gained hundreds of views, with many viewers supporting the hotel's actions. One wrote: "Wish every hotel would do this." Another added: "Needs to be carried out in every hotel. I look for reviews and if this happens, I won't book." A third remarked: "Give those staff a raise. Just back from Majorca, where people were out at 5.30am reserving beds. Their towels were in the pool by 6.30am when the cleaners arrived to sort the beds etc. These guys are heroes."

Others described the policy as "excellent" for ending "sunbed wars," with many agreeing it should be adopted more widely. One observer noted: "I would book a hotel purely on this rule." Another added: "Need more of this. You work 52 weeks and spend three weeks trying to get a sunbed."

Hotel Policies on Sunbed Reservation

Hotels are within their rights to prevent guests from reserving sunbeds, and many have policies to tackle the problem. Methods include removing unattended towels or using booking apps to ensure fair access. Such measures aim to stop guests from "hogging" beds, a common frustration on holidays.
