Taylor Swift's 'Painful to Watch' Period Drama Amsterdam on Netflix
Swift's Divisive Period Drama Now on Netflix

Taylor Swift's 2022 period drama Amsterdam, directed by David O. Russell, is now available to stream on Netflix in the UK. The film, which scored a dismal 32 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, arrives as Swift married Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on July 3, 2026, at Madison Square Garden in New York, officiated by Adam Sandler.

Critical and Commercial Failure

Despite an all-star cast including Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, and Anya Taylor-Joy, Amsterdam was both a critical and commercial flop. Made on a budget of $80 million, it lost more than $100 million at the box office for 20th Century Studios.

Swift plays Elizabeth Meekins in the mystery thriller, set in the 1930s and based on the real-life Business Plot of 1933. One Rotten Tomatoes user called it "A confused mess that was painful to watch," while another wrote: "Honestly in contention for the worst movie of the 2020s."

Mixed Defenders

However, the film has its defenders. One fan claimed it is "An instant classic. Given time, it will be regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. The cast is outstanding." On IMDb, a user slammed it as "Quite literally one of the most worthless movies I've ever seen," adding that it wasted its stellar cast.

Swifties looking for a better Swift fix on Netflix can stream her documentary Miss Americana (2020) or watch The Eras Tour concert film on Disney+. Amsterdam is now streaming on Netflix.
