Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of a surprising transfer coup, targeting 16-year-old Arsenal winger Kyran Thompson. The teenager, who joined Arsenal from West Ham in 2024 for a reported £1.1 million, is yet to sign a contract extension, with his scholarship deal expiring at the end of June. This has opened the door for Spurs to swoop in and secure the highly-rated prospect.
Thompson's Rise at Arsenal
Thompson, a right winger, spent most of last season with Arsenal's Under-18 side and also made his debut for the Under-21 team. Arsenal are keen to keep him, but negotiations have stalled, leaving the player free to consider other options. According to the Mail, Manchester City—who tried to sign Thompson two years ago—have reignited their interest, but Tottenham are currently leading the chase.
Spurs' Busy Summer Window
Tottenham have already been active this summer, bringing in Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi as free agents, along with completing a £52 million deal for Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke. Manager Roberto De Zerbi is rebuilding after a disappointing 17th-place finish last season, and the club is expected to make further signings before the transfer window closes on September 1.
Midfield Targets Also on Radar
Spurs are also looking to strengthen midfield after Lucas Bergvall confirmed his desire to leave due to a lack of first-team opportunities. Targets include Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali, and West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, though any deal is expected to be costly given the inflated market and competition from other clubs.
With several targets involved in the World Cup, De Zerbi has described the transfer strategy as 'a marathon, not a sprint'. Nonetheless, Spurs remain optimistic about wrapping up a deal for Thompson and continuing their summer overhaul.
