Sony has unveiled the Reon Pocket Pro Plus, the latest iteration of its wearable air conditioner, boasting significant improvements in cooling performance and design. The device now delivers up to 20 per cent more cooling power than its predecessor, thanks to a new cooling algorithm and a redesigned thermal system. In smart cool mode, the cooling plate can reach temperatures 2C cooler than before, promising a more intense chill.
Enhanced Cooling and Neckband Design
The previous Reon Pocket Pro already felt like pressing an ice pack against the back of the neck during a heatwave. Sony claims the new model will cool the entire body, not just the upper back. The neckband has been redesigned with an adaptive hold system, improving holding force by approximately 40 per cent. This ensures the device stays securely pressed against the neck while walking, addressing a common issue where the older model shifted and reduced effectiveness.
Improved Airflow and Sensor Tag
The airflow exhaust system has been overhauled, allowing users to adjust both the angle and length of the vents. This makes the device compatible with high-collar clothes and easier to conceal under different shirt collars. Sony also introduces the Reon Pocket Tag 2, an environmental sensor that measures temperature and humidity, automatically adjusting the device. The tag is 18 per cent smaller than its predecessor and features a carabiner clip for attachment to bags or belts.
Available now, the Sony Reon Pocket Pro Plus is priced at £199, the same launch price as the previous model. While still expensive for a souped-up ice pack, the promise of full-body cooling makes it an intriguing option for those seeking relief from heat.
