Shakira and Burna Boy Release Official World Cup Song

Shakira and Nigerian singer Burna Boy have joined forces to release the official song for the 2026 World Cup, set to kick off next month. The duo unveiled 'Dai Dai' on Friday, with the Colombian pop star celebrating the announcement on social media.

Song Launch and Social Media Buzz

'Dai Dai is here. The @fifaworldcup 2026 starts now!' Shakira captioned an Instagram post announcing the track's release. She had previously teased the song by sharing a minute-long clip on social media, building anticipation among fans.

The 2026 World Cup, the largest in history with 48 teams, begins on June 11 and will be co-hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

FIFA's Statement on the Collaboration

'Dai Dai brings together the global sounds and energy of Shakira and Burna Boy in a vibrant celebration of football, culture, and unity,' FIFA said in a statement. 'Royalties from the song will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.'

This news comes alongside announcements that Madonna and South Korean boy band BTS will headline the first-ever World Cup final half-time show. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who revealed the lineup via a social media video featuring characters from Sesame Street and the Muppets, is curating the landmark performance.

World Cup Final Details

The World Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who shared details of the event in an Instagram post, announced plans for the show in March 2024. The half-time interval during the final may extend beyond the customary 15 minutes to accommodate the performance.

The show supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aiming to raise $100 million to expand access to education and football for children worldwide.

Half-Time Show Tradition

Half-time entertainment has become a major feature of US sporting events, particularly the Super Bowl. Madonna headlined the Super Bowl half-time show in 2012, while Shakira shared the stage with Jennifer Lopez at the event in 2020. Last summer, FIFA staged a half-time show at MetLife Stadium during the Club World Cup final, where Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0.
