A tragic science experiment at an Ohio middle school has left a 15-year-old student with severe burns covering more than 40 percent of her body. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday at Greeneview Middle School in Jamestown, Ohio.
The teenager was airlifted to a hospital, where she continues to receive treatment. According to a GoFundMe page shared by the school, she faces a long and challenging recovery, both physically and emotionally. Out of respect for the family's privacy, specific details about the accident have not been disclosed, but the school assures that the student is doing as well as possible under the circumstances.
The fundraiser has already raised over $66,000 to assist with expenses related to the accident. Meanwhile, the local community has rallied to support the family. Nicole Marshall, owner of Small Town Roots Salon and Spa, organized a separate fundraiser, encouraging donations of cash or hair to potentially create a wig for the student. Marshall stated that she felt compelled to act, believing it was a calling from God.
In a previous statement, Greeneview High School confirmed that all students and staff were evacuated immediately following the fire. One student received on-site treatment, while another was transported to the hospital for burn injuries. The school reopened the next day, with additional support available for students.
The Independent has reached out to Greeneview High School for further comment. The community continues to hold the injured student and her family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
