The LawnMaster OcuMow Robot Lawnmower from Amazon has been tested in one owner's garden over the last two years, now entering its third summer of use. Priced at £299, the device has saved countless hours that would otherwise be spent cutting the grass.
How it works
The mower uses a grass recognition camera and ultrasonic sensors to cut grass, with no outdoor power socket, boundary wire, or app required. Users select a cutting height between 200mm and 600mm and press start. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery allows up to four hours of mowing.
Mulching and storage benefits
The robot mulches grass as it mows, eliminating the need to stop and empty it. Clippings are small enough to leave on the lawn, helping keep it lush. Its compact size fits in a cupboard, solving storage issues for those without a garage or shed.
Limitations noted
The mower may not suit larger lawns or those with less defined borders. Raised borders help it stick to grass, but it leaves about an inch of uncut grass at edges, requiring a strimmer. Sensors can also cause it to avoid very long grass, so regular use is needed. Despite these issues, the time saved makes it worthwhile.
