Ubisoft Reveals PS5 Pro Exclusive Features for Black Flag Resynced
Ubisoft has detailed the exclusive upgrades that PlayStation 5 Pro players will receive in the upcoming remake of Assassin's Creed Black Flag, titled Black Flag Resynced. The game, rebuilt from the ground up on the latest Anvil engine, promises a tailored experience for PS5 and PS5 Pro owners, with enhanced graphics and performance features.
In a blog post on PlayStation's official website, Ubisoft's technical architect Nicolas Lopez and technical director Jussi Markkanen explained that a traditional remaster was deemed insufficient. Instead, they rebuilt the game to fully leverage PS5 hardware, ensuring immersive visuals and gameplay.
Graphics Modes and Performance on PS5
On the standard PS5, Black Flag Resynced offers three graphics modes: Performance, Balanced, and Fidelity. All modes target a 2160P upscaled resolution. Performance mode aims for 60 frames per second (fps), Balanced for 40fps, and Fidelity for 30fps. Extended ray tracing is available in Fidelity and Balanced modes.
PS5 Pro Exclusive Upgrades
The PS5 Pro version introduces several exclusive enhancements. The resolution remains 2160P upscaled but uses the enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. Frame rate targets are identical to the base PS5 across all three modes. However, the PS5 Pro features extended ray tracing across all graphics modes, including Ray-Traced Global Illumination and Ray-Traced Specular Reflections. This enables richer lighting and reflection quality throughout the game world.
Additionally, the PS5 Pro supports strand-based hair rendering, simulating individual strands for more natural motion and response to wind. Lopez and Markkanen noted: "The PlayStation 5 Pro includes all the features of the base PlayStation 5 but adds significantly more GPU power and enhanced ray‑tracing performance, giving additional headroom for higher fidelity and more stable performance."
Other exclusive upgrades for PlayStation owners include HDR support, Dolby Atmos audio, and DualSense haptic feedback.
Dynamic World and Water System
Ubisoft emphasized that the game world reacts in real time to changes in time of day, weather, and environment, moving away from precomputed lighting. A fully modernized water system enhances the oceanic gameplay central to Black Flag's experience.
Lopez and Markkanen added: "When rebuilding Assassin’s Creed Black Flag on the latest version of Anvil, our goal wasn’t only to modernize technology. We wanted to strengthen the sense of immersion, adventure, and discovery that made Edward Kenway’s journey so memorable in the first place."
Release Date
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launches on July 9 for PS5, PS5 Pro, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
