Pixel 11 Pro 'spectacular' as trade-in deal cuts up to £850

Google's Pixel 11 Pro has been described as 'spectacular' by technology experts, and UK shoppers can now buy it with a trade-in deal that reduces the price by up to £850.

The new Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold were unveiled at the Made by Google showcase in New York on August 12 and are now available to buy in Britain. Prices start at £879 for the standard model and £1,079 for the Pro edition, which comes in four colours: Canyon, Olive, Fog and Obsidian.

Trade-in offer cuts cost to £229

Google is offering customers up to £850 back when they trade in an eligible device by September 1. This includes an enhanced £400 bonus on top of the standard trade-in value, potentially bringing the cost down to as little as £229.

Buying a handset outright can often work out cheaper than a monthly contract. For example, Sky Mobile offers the 25GB model from £30 per month plus £12 upfront over 36 months, which adds up to £1,092 before any mid-contract price increases. Customers could save up to £863 by buying directly from Google and using the trade-in promotion.

Retailer bundles and SIM deals

The total cost over 36 months with Sky Mobile comes to £1,836, again before any mid-contract increase, making Google direct the most budget-friendly option in the long run. Those buying a handset outright will need a SIM plan for calls, texts and data without WiFi.

Google's phones are unlocked, so buyers can choose from flexible or long-term SIM-only deals. The headline £850 trade-in saving is based on a 1TB iPhone 16 Pro, so other handsets will attract different valuations and may not qualify for the full discount.

giffgaff offers an 18-month unlimited SIM reduced to £14 (was £25) with EU roaming up to 5GB, plus a monthly-rolling unlimited SIM at £20 (was £35). Mobiles.co.uk is offering a free bundle worth £419 with the Pixel 11 Pro, including a £369 Pixel Watch 5 and a £50 phone case with the iD Mobile 100GB tariff at £27.99 per month with £29 upfront.

Specs and expert verdict

The Pixel 11 Pro features 256GB of storage and runs on the new Tensor G6 processor, described as Google's 'fastest and most powerful' to date. It works alongside the Titan M3 security coprocessor, while Gemini Intelligence offers personalised assistance with daily tasks and control over which data is used.

The handset has a 6.3-inch Super Actua display with up to 3,600 nits peak brightness and a 1-120Hz refresh rate, reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It carries an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. The camera system supports Pro Zoom up to 120x and 8K video recording, while Magic Capture uses Google AI to capture photos and videos simultaneously.

Android Central's experts, who have tested the device, described it as 'spectacular': "Anytime anyone asks me about which Pixel device they should get, I always recommend going Pro over the base model. The Pro phones are spectacular: convenient, beautiful and packed with tools that I promise will make you question why you haven't gone Pro before."

However, they noted that the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL are 'basically the same' as their predecessor, stating: "The Pro and Pro XL models are basically the exact same models as last year, but really what you're paying for is the hardware improvements and software upgrades."

They added: "The [camera] features are exceptional. Magic Capture captures a moving subject and breaks it down into a sequence of sharp, crystal-clear still photos. Finally, my absolute favourite feature just got a huge upgrade. You can now take a picture within the Camera and directly use Circle to Search, a very convenient feature. The new devices have even more zoom capabilities: the base has 30x zoom, while the Pro models have 120x zoom."
