Microsoft Outlook Down: Simple Fix for Email Nightmare After 24 Hours
Outlook Down: Simple Fix for Email Nightmare After 24 Hours

It hasn't been the best start to the week for millions of Microsoft Outlook users. The popular email service was hit by major technical gremlins yesterday, Monday, April 27, leaving many locked out of accounts and unable to send or check messages. The disruption was serious, with many left fuming that such an important system had failed.

Microsoft Confirms Fix, but Issues Persist

Microsoft later confirmed it had identified the cause of the outage and fixed the bug, with the US firm saying: "System telemetry indicates that the service remains healthy." While that is reassuring, many users still appear to be experiencing problems this morning, with fresh reports continuing to appear on Down Detector, a service which monitors outages across the globe.

Social media has also been flooded with complaints from frustrated customers. "Why is Outlook STILL down? I have some very important emails, like many others around the world. Please get it together. This is ridiculous now — 24 hours and still getting nothing," one user, named James, wrote. Another Outlook customer, called Lydia, added: "Are you still down? This is crazy!"

Simple Solution for iPhone Users

So, yes, Microsoft Outlook appears to have been offline for almost 24 hours, but fortunately, there may be a simple solution. Microsoft has advised that iPhone and other iOS users may need to sign back into their accounts manually. The company said: "iOS users must take additional steps to re-enter their password to successfully access Outlook accounts."

If you're using an iPhone and still can't access Outlook, try the following steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap Mail.
  • Select Accounts, then choose the email account affected.
  • Tap Account Settings or the Password field.
  • Enter your correct password and tap Done to save changes.
  • Open the Mail app and check that your account is syncing properly and emails can be sent and received.

Once completed, access to your emails should be restored.
