Newcastle United are closing in on a £42 million deal for Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure, with a medical reportedly booked as the Magpies move quickly to reinvest the £100 million from Sandro Tonali's sale.
Advanced Talks Underway
Chronicle Live has been told that Newcastle intend to bring in younger players of high potential, and Toure is in advanced talks over a move to St James' Park. The 21-year-old left winger is seen as a replacement for Anthony Gordon, as the club looks to strengthen after selling Tonali.
Toure was eliminated from the World Cup with Ivory Coast on Tuesday, and Newcastle have moved swiftly to tie up a deal. A fee of £42 million has been mentioned by sources, and a medical has been booked should terms be agreed.
Impressive Bundesliga Form
Last season in the Bundesliga, Toure scored five goals and provided nine assists in 29 starts for Hoffenheim, showcasing his attacking prowess and potential.
Club chiefs are aware of a potential backlash from fans after Tonali's sale and speculation that captain Bruno Guimaraes could also leave. They are looking to generate positive PR by securing high-potential signings like Toure.
Cautious Optimism
Newcastle remain cautious, as the deal is not yet finalized, but they are hopeful of clinching Toure's signature. The club also has Johan Manzambi of Freiburg and Tottenham's Archie Gray on their radar. Despite reports that Newcastle had bid for Gray earlier on Wednesday, Spurs denied receiving an offer, though Newcastle remain keen on the former Leeds United midfielder.
CEO David Hopkinson had previously indicated the club's willingness to sell key players if the right offer came in. When asked about Tonali's potential departure three months ago, he said: "We think through what players might or might not want to do this summer. But if an Isak-like scenario presents itself again, any player under contract is going to leave on our terms and we're going to maximise the opportunity that might represent for the club."
