Mohamed Salah is being considered by AS Roma and Juventus as the 34-year-old forward evaluates his options following his departure from Liverpool. Salah is currently representing Egypt at the World Cup, but speculation about his future continues to intensify, particularly regarding interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.
Interest from European Giants
According to The Mail, Roma—the club Salah joined Liverpool from in 2017—are among those who have explored the possibility of re-signing their former attacker. Juventus have also conducted similar assessments, and their head coach Luciano Spalletti is highly regarded by Salah. However, financial constraints pose a significant challenge for both Italian clubs, as Salah would command a substantial wage.
Salah left Liverpool on a free transfer after his contract expired, ending an eight-year stint at Anfield. During his time with Liverpool, he scored 211 goals and won the Premier League, Champions League, and other major trophies.
Saudi Arabian Interest Persists
Interest from Saudi Arabia has been longstanding. Al-Ittihad previously had a £150 million bid rejected by Liverpool in the summer of 2023 and remain keen on the veteran forward. Al-Hilal are also reportedly monitoring the situation. However, a move to the Middle East is not guaranteed, as Salah may opt to stay in Europe.
Other potential destinations include the United States, where clubs have shown interest, and Turkey, which has also been linked with a move for the four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner.
Decision After World Cup
Salah has indicated that he will delay a decision on his next club until after the World Cup. Speaking in May, he said: “I am still assessing things. I have time now. I am going to the World Cup and then everything will become clear. If there is a good opportunity before then, I will decide, and if there isn’t, I will make my decision after the World Cup.”
Egypt are set to face Argentina in the Round of 16 on Tuesday evening. Salah has contributed one goal and two assists in four matches during the tournament, helping Egypt advance to the knockout stage. A victory against the reigning champions would see them progress to the quarter-finals.
Career Highlights
Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 for a then-club record fee. He scored 44 goals in his debut season, winning the Premier League Golden Boot and the PFA Players' Player of the Year award. He helped Liverpool win the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020, among other honors.
His departure from Liverpool was emotional, with Salah bidding farewell to fans in May. He leaves as one of the club's greatest modern players, with 211 goals in 349 appearances.
