Man Utd Close on Double Transfer as Midfield Priority Shifts to Alex Scott
Man Utd Close on Double Transfer as Midfield Priority Shifts

Manchester United are on the verge of completing a rapid double transfer swoop, as Michael Carrick's midfield priorities shift towards Bournemouth's Alex Scott after failing to land primary targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes. The club is also set to sign Swansea City youth goalkeeper Kit Margetson, with a loan move to an EFL club expected.

Double Transfer: Kit Margetson Deal Close

United are nearing the signing of Wales under-21 goalkeeper Kit Margetson from Swansea City. The 19-year-old, son of former England goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson, joined Swansea at under-15 level but has yet to make a senior appearance. He spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Connah's Quay Nomads. United are expected to pay a compensation fee before welcoming him to Carrington. According to reports, Margetson will be loaned to an EFL club this summer to gain first-team experience, potentially making this a double deal involving an immediate loan.

Midfield Blueprint: Scott Emerges as Top Target

United's pursuit of a marquee midfield addition continues after losing out on Elliot Anderson to Manchester City and Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham. Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Brighton's Carlos Baleba have been on the club's radar, but fresh reports indicate a shift in focus. The Manchester Evening News reports that while Baleba was coveted last summer, Brighton have maintained their £100m valuation despite a disappointing campaign, and progress has been minimal. Regarding Wharton, the transfer trail has grown colder, as United consider him too similar to Kobbie Mainoo to partner in a two-man midfield.

Bournemouth's Alex Scott is now reportedly at the top of United's midfield targets. Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni has also been appreciated for several months, while Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha has an admirer in director of football Jason Wilcox, who worked with him in Manchester City's academy.

Carrick's Permanent Role and Ederson Deal

Michael Carrick, in his second spell as caretaker manager, steered the club to a top-four finish and has been handed a permanent position. He will start his maiden pre-season as boss next week. Meanwhile, Ederson is set to become a United player for £35m from Atalanta, but the transfer will only be finalised once Brazil's 2026 World Cup campaign concludes.
