Swansea City youngster Kit Margetson is expected to complete a sensational move to Premier League giants Manchester United this summer, according to reports. The 19-year-old goalkeeper, son of recently departed Swans head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson, has been with the club since joining at under-15 level but has yet to feature for the first team.
Loan spell and contract situation
Margetson recently spent a loan spell with Welsh side Connah's Quay Nomads, where he kept 10 clean sheets in 39 appearances across all competitions. He is out of contract this summer, and although Swansea said they were 'in discussions' over a new deal, the club now expects him to swap south Wales for Manchester.
Compensation fee and United interest
Manchester United would have to pay a compensation fee for the Wales under-21s international, though the value is not yet known. Speculation about United's interest has persisted for months, with claims that the Red Devils were watching the teenager as early as May.
Commentator Mark Allen, on commentary duties for S4C during Connah's Quay's match against The New Saints, revealed that United's highly-regarded goalkeeping scout Tony Coton was in attendance to watch Margetson. “I’m going to tell you the truth, he told me he’s watching Kit,” Allen said. “It’s great to see the Cymru Premier pulling in scouts from the biggest clubs in the world. He’s competent in what he’s doing. He’s growing up, and every time I see him play, he’s growing up in front of me.”
