Manchester United are in the midst of a crucial transfer window as Michael Carrick looks to build on the progress made in the second half of last season. The Reds will be keen to improve upon last season's third-place finish and make their mark in the Champions League.
New Midfielder Arrives
Promising midfielder Cristian Orozco is preparing to begin his Old Trafford career as he approaches his 18th birthday. United secured the signing of the Fortaleza CEIF prospect last September but must wait until July 13, when he turns 18, to officially register him.
Accompanied by chief scout Giuseppe Antonaccio, United are being proactive by bringing him to Manchester this weekend to start the acclimatisation process and complete his medical.
Given his age, the Colombian, whose playing style has been compared to Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, is viewed as a prospect for the future and will initially join United's under-21 squad. However, some first-team involvement next season isn't ruled out. With United competing in the Champions League, Carrick may heavily rotate his squad in the Carabao Cup.
United 'Make Contact' for Felix Nmecha
United have approached World Cup star Felix Nmecha, according to reports in Germany. Multiple clubs are said to be keen on the Borussia Dortmund man, who has received glowing praise for his displays in North America so far this summer.
Sky Germany claim United are attempting to beat the 'increasing competition' for the 25-year-old and haven't been deterred by his long-term Dortmund contract, which has four years remaining and includes a £75.5million buyout clause.
Newcastle are also said to be keen but reportedly want to reduce the asking price, potentially creating an opportunity for Man United to step in. A switch to the Premier League appeals to Nmecha, who is the younger brother of Leeds United forward Lukas. For now, Felix's attention will be on the World Cup, where Germany face Paraguay in the last 32 after finishing top of Group E.
Other Transfer Developments
Brazilian midfielder Ederson is set to join United from Atalanta, with additional signings - alongside several departures - expected. Following Casemiro's departure, United need more midfield reinforcements and they are competing with Tottenham for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
The Portugal international is among several players being linked with moves to Old Trafford, including Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali, though Elliot Anderson - another target for United - has agreed to join Manchester City.
Regarding outgoings, goalkeeper Andre Onana appears likely to extend his loan spell at Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club covering his wages and paying a loan fee.
