Liverpool are targeting 17-year-old Mexican winger Gilberto Mora following his impressive performances at the World Cup in North America, according to reports. The Club Tijuana star started against Ecuador on Wednesday, becoming the second youngest player to start a World Cup knockout match, behind only Brazil legend Pele.
World Cup Wonderkid Targeted
According to De Telegraaf, Mora is destined for a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all interested. However, the Reds may have to be patient, with visa regulations preventing Mora from moving to England until he turns 18 in October.
“In six months, during the winter transfer window, Gilberto Mora is going to take off … he’s going to be a Premier League,” TNT Sports' Mexico journalist Rodrigo Lara told AS Mexico. “I can’t say which team… Today, after the match against Ecuador and after the England game, things are going to move forward for Gilberto Mora. The information I have is that Gilberto Mora will play in the Premier League.”
Bournemouth Double Deal Agreed
Liverpool have also confirmed that Bournemouth coaches Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper will join Andoni Iraola’s backroom staff at Anfield as first-team coaches. The pair, who both represented Bournemouth during their playing careers, will link up with assistant coach Pablo de la Torre and first-team tactical analyst Tom Weber, who also served under Iraola on the south coast.
The Reds have already recruited Iraola, sporting director Richard Hughes and left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, while they have also been strongly linked with Brazilian forward Rayan.
Rebuilding After Disappointing Campaign
Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League last season and failed to reach the semi-finals of any competition, prompting the departure of Arne Slot and the appointment of former Bournemouth boss Iraola. The Spaniard has already made his first signing by bringing highly-rated Osasuna winger Victor Munoz to Anfield in a deal worth £34 million. French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet also completed his move to Merseyside on July 1 after Liverpool agreed a £55 million deal with Rennes back in January.
Plenty more business is expected after the departures of Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah left major holes in the squad. Sporting director Richard Hughes is understood to have made signing a new right winger a priority, although his own future has come under scrutiny amid growing links of a move to Saudi Arabia.
