Lidl Expands Self-Scanning Lidl & Go to 37 More UK Stores in July
Lidl Expands Lidl & Go to 37 More UK Stores in July

Lidl has announced the expansion of its Lidl & Go self-scanning trial to 37 additional stores across the UK, following positive customer feedback from the initial seven-store pilot. The phased rollout will see the feature become available to shoppers across Scotland, the South East, and the wider South of England throughout July.

How Lidl & Go Works

Integrated within the Lidl Plus app, Lidl & Go allows customers to scan products as they shop, track their spending and savings in real time, and complete their purchase more seamlessly at checkout. The feature is available directly through customers' own smartphones, with no requirement for dedicated in-store scanning devices.

Feedback from the initial trial has shown particular appeal among customers shopping with children and those looking for greater flexibility during their shop, allowing them to move through the store at their own pace while keeping track of their spending.

Customer Response

Louise Weise, chief customer officer at Lidl GB, said: “The early response from the initial phase of Lidl & Go has been really encouraging. Customers are telling us they value the control and visibility it gives them over their spend, and the flexibility to shop at their own pace. This next wave of stores brings the feature to many more customers, and we’ll continue to take on board feedback to evolve the offering as we go.”

The expansion of Lidl & Go forms part of Lidl GB's increased investment in digital innovation, aimed at making shopping easier, more convenient, and more flexible for customers. The supermarket said it will ensure that traditional payment methods and staffed tills remain available across its stores.

Additional Digital Enhancements

Lidl also said it has increased investment into personalised coupons on the Lidl Plus app this year by 60%. This May also saw the introduction of Lidl Points, a rewards system for customers. Available to collect and redeem via the Lidl Plus app, the new scheme allows customers to earn points on every transaction in-store. Points can then be redeemed through the in-app marketplace in exchange for coupons, or they can be swapped for hundreds of items available in the Lidl Plus app, including cheese twists, bananas, and chocolate digestives.

Lidl says the change is being implemented following customer feedback. Louise Weise, chief customer officer at Lidl GB, said at the time of the rollout: "At Lidl, our core purpose has always been to deliver value to our customers, providing a seamless shopping experience without compromising on quality or the savings shoppers know and love. Everything we do is driven by a deep understanding of customer needs and a commitment to exceeding their expectations. We’ve done a big piece of work to listen to customers and it was clear from the feedback that they wanted more freedom to decide the rewards that suit them."
