LG TV owners get free Sky channels in major Christmas upgrade
LG TVs get free Sky channels in Christmas upgrade

Owners of LG televisions across the UK have received a significant festive gift, with the manufacturer confirming a substantial upgrade to its free streaming service. The enhancement brings a selection of premium Sky channels to viewers at no extra cost, just in time for the Christmas holidays.

What's new on LG Channels?

The update, which started its rollout in December 2025, expands the LG Channels platform with notable additions from Sky. Subscriptions are not required to access content from Sky Sports Stories, Sky Sports Vault, and Sky Sports Classics. Furthermore, the linear Sky News channel has been recently integrated, bolstering the free offering available directly through compatible LG sets.

This seasonal boost includes more than just sports and news. The update introduces LG1 Christmas for holiday-themed viewing, the FIFA+ Women Channel dedicated to women's football, and the DP World Tour channel for golf enthusiasts. All these channels operate on a FAST (Free Ad-Supported Television) model, meaning programmes will include commercial breaks.

Enhanced features for a better viewing experience

Beyond the influx of new content, the upgrade delivers system-wide improvements designed to refine the user experience. Personalised content recommendations have been enhanced to better align with individual viewing habits. A refreshed user interface aims to make navigating the vast library and discovering something to watch quicker and more intuitive.

A new "Quick Access" feature has also been implemented. While watching any programme, viewers can simply press the "OK" button on their LG Magic Remote to instantly pull up key information. This includes details about the current channel, the TV guide, a list of favourite channels, and popular content recommendations.

A strategic move in free streaming

Chris Jo, Head of the webOS Platform Business Centre at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, commented on the update. "LG Channels is designed to give users seamless access to high-quality, engaging content," Jo stated. "With the latest upgrade — from our new logo to enhanced personalisation features — we’re making everyday viewing more intuitive and enjoyable for millions of users worldwide."

This strategic expansion positions LG's free, ad-supported service as a more formidable competitor in the crowded streaming market. By aggregating sought-after content like Sky's sports archives and news coverage without a subscription fee, LG is adding considerable value to its television ecosystem. Owners of eligible LG TVs are advised to check their sets for the update to access the new channels and features immediately.
