Leapmotor T03 Becomes UK's Cheapest Car at £12,995, Beating Dacia
Leapmotor T03 Is UK's Cheapest Car at £12,995

The Leapmotor T03, a Chinese-built electric vehicle, has claimed the title of the UK's most affordable new car with a starting price of £12,995 after a £3,000 discount under the brand's 'Leap-Grant' scheme. This price undercuts all petrol and diesel models, including those from Dacia, making it the cheapest car on the market.

Price and Discount Details

Leapmotor, which is owned by automotive giant Stellantis, introduced the Leap-Grant discount ahead of the government's Electric Car Grant. The £3,000 reduction brings the T03's price down from £15,995. The government's own Electric Car Grant offers up to £3,750 off eligible EVs, but with stricter criteria on manufacturing and shipping.

Specifications and Features

The all-electric T03 boasts a range of up to 165 miles on a single charge. Standard equipment includes a 10.1-inch infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind-spot detection. It competes directly with the Dacia Spring in size and price.

Sales and Market Impact

Since its UK launch last year, Leapmotor has recorded 10,000 vehicle registrations. The T03 joins the C10 and B10 in the brand's predominantly electric lineup. Damien Dally, Leapmotor UK managing director, said: "When we launched our industry-first Leap-Grant a year ago, we offered simplicity, clarity, and financial savings for customers left confused and in limbo by the Government's own scheme. To celebrate 12 months of helping buyers 'take the leap' to electrification, we're delighted to be doubling the Leap-Grant on the T03, making it not just the most affordable new EV in the UK, but the most affordable new car full stop."
