Rangers are finalising a deal to sign goalkeeper Ivor Pandur from Hull City for £6 million, with the Croatian international set to become the club's new No.1. The transfer is structured separately from Jack Butland's move to Hull, who will join the Tigers for £3 million. Rangers fans believe they are upgrading, landing a keeper with strong pedigree at a better age.
Who is Ivor Pandur?
Pandur, 26, is a Croatian goalkeeper who has played for four clubs across four countries: Rijeka (Croatia), Hellas Verona (Italy), Fortuna Sittard (Netherlands), and Hull City (England), where he arrived in January 2024. He stands at 6ft 1in, and while not the most imposing stature for a goalkeeper, his former coach Steve Marsella says he compensates with bravery and aggression.
What is his record at Hull City?
Pandur kept 20 clean sheets in 117 games for Hull. Last season, he recorded 14 shutouts in 48 appearances and did not concede a single goal in the club's three playoff matches, helping Hull secure promotion to the Premier League. He also made famous penalty saves against Sheffield United and Wrexham. Hull fans are disappointed to see him leave.
Why is he available?
Pandur is on the market because Hull need to balance their books to meet profit and sustainability rules. This is reportedly why the deals are presented as two separate transfers rather than a player-plus-cash swap involving Butland.
What has been said about him?
Former Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty, who played with Pandur at Hull, described him as a 'very good goalkeeper' and 'one of the best professionals' he has worked with. Docherty added: 'You don’t get into the Croatia national team squad unless you’re a talented goalkeeper. So I really hope it works out for him at Rangers.'
What are his best attributes?
Pandur is described as a fearless goalkeeper with good reach for his stature. He is noted for his commanding presence, shot-stopping ability, and calmness on the ball. He is also modest and unassuming, having recently admitted he snubbed Hull's promotion party in Las Vegas to spend time with friends and family in Croatia. Pandur said: 'I had a fairytale year... but I don't regret not going to Las Vegas, I'm not a big party person.'
Is he at the World Cup?
Pandur is part of Croatia's squad for the 2026 World Cup but is unlikely to play unless No.1 Dominik Livakovic is injured or suspended. He is as yet uncapped by his country despite being a regular call-up since November 2025. It is highly likely that his next competitive appearance will be in a Rangers shirt.
