New alleged GTA 6 gameplay leaks are appearing online daily, with the leaker possibly in possession of a fully playable build of the game. The clips, uploaded by a group or individual dubbed 'CyberLeek', have included protagonist Jason beating up citizens, hijacking cars, flying planes, and speeding through Vice City in a hypercar.
At the end of one clip, the player writes 'Leek' into a wall with bullet spray, suggesting the leaker has hands-on access to the game rather than pre-recorded clips from a Rockstar server.
CyberLeek's crypto scheme
CyberLeek initially claimed the footage was released in protest of Rockstar abstaining from publishing a physical disc of GTA 6. However, it now appears the leaks may be part of a crypto scam targeting gamers.
CyberLeek is listing a crypto coin of the same name, earning transaction fees on every purchase. According to a user on the GTA Forums site, the coin's owner has earned around $50k so far. The gradual release of clips keeps the coin relevant, generating more fees.
CyberLeek is encouraging gamers to invest in the coin in exchange for votes on which clip to leak next, though investing is not advisable.
Take-Two's legal response
Rockstar has remained quiet on the leaks, but publisher Take-Two has filed multiple subpoenas in a federal district court to identify the source of the leaked GTA 6 gameplay videos.
Take-Two has requested that Microsoft and Discord hand over relevant data to help track down the responsible party, according to Kotaku. The subpoena states: “The copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements.”
It adds: “Take-Two, through its counsel of record, has submitted a sworn declaration confirming that the purpose for which the DMCA subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers, and that such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting Take-Two’s rights…”
Rockstar is set to officially reveal GTA 6 gameplay next Thursday in an 'Extended Look' premiering on Netflix, with the footage available free on the Rockstar YouTube channel six hours later.
