Liverpool have suffered a significant setback in their search for Mohamed Salah's successor after 19-year-old winger Yan Diomande chose Paris Saint-Germain over a move to Anfield. The RB Leipzig star, valued at £112.1 million (€130 million), has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the French champions, leaving the Reds to explore other options.
Diomande's decision and Liverpool's response
According to The Athletic, Diomande is keen on PSG's project and believes a move to Ligue 1 offers the best chance for team and individual silverware, including a potential Ballon d'Or bid. Liverpool had identified the Ivory Coast international as their primary target, but his preference for Paris has forced a change in strategy.
With the transfer window open, Liverpool must now pivot to alternative wingers. Several promising candidates have been linked, with varying price tags and profiles.
Said El Mala – Cologne
Cologne's Said El Mala, also 19, is reportedly available for around £43.1 million (€50 million), nearly £70 million less than Diomande. The German winger has recorded 13 goals and five assists in 36 appearances, impressing with his pace and versatility. German outlet FussballDaten reports Liverpool's interest, though competition from Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, and Newcastle is expected. El Mala can also play as an attacking midfielder, offering tactical flexibility.
Yankuba Minteh – Brighton
Brighton's Yankuba Minteh, 21, is another alternative, with Liverpool reportedly setting aside a £40 million budget for his signing. The Athletic notes that Minteh has contributed 10 goals and nine assists for Brighton since joining from Newcastle in 2024. He notably impressed against Liverpool in a 2-1 win in March and previously thrived under Arne Slot at Feyenoord, with 16 goal contributions in 37 games.
Rayan – Bournemouth
Rayan, a 19-year-old Bournemouth winger, could be tempted to Anfield by the arrival of former boss Andoni Iraola. The Brazilian has seven goal contributions in 15 appearances for the Cherries and recently assisted Vinicius Jr for Brazil against Scotland. However, his release clause is £86 million, similar to Diomande's fee, though Iraola's relationship with the player and club might help negotiate a reduction.
Bradley Barcola – PSG
Bradley Barcola, already a long-term target, remains an option despite PSG's refusal to sell. The 22-year-old has 39 goals and 27 assists in 152 appearances for PSG and is a France international. Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool "love Barcola" and discuss him weekly. With contract talks stalling, PSG may allow an exit if Barcola requests one, with a price tag around £80 million.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo – Lille
Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo, 21, is valued at £60 million and has 23 goal contributions in 71 appearances. He has featured as a central striker and gained World Cup experience with Belgium. Newcastle are also interested, especially after Liverpool beat them to Victor Munoz's signature, adding rivalry to the pursuit.
