Google's Fitbit Air, launched in May 2026, stirred excitement as the first screenless Fitbit in years, but a four-year-old model offers better value. The Fitbit Inspire 3, released in 2022, packs the same sensors as the Air plus a colour display and is currently selling for £68 on Amazon, £16.99 less than the Air's £84.99 price at Argos.
Key Differences Between Inspire 3 and Fitbit Air
The Inspire 3 includes a small colour screen that shows the time, steps, and other fitness stats, while the Air has no display—it only passively collects data like steps, distance, calories, and sleep tracking when worn at night. The Inspire 3 also allows users to start workouts such as walks, runs, or cycles directly from the wrist, a function the Air lacks.
Battery life is another advantage: the Inspire 3 lasts up to 10 days on a full charge, matching Google's promise, whereas the Air requires more frequent charging despite lacking a screen.
GPS and Display Considerations
Neither model has built-in GPS, but the Inspire 3 can connect to a smartphone to track routes during runs, though this requires carrying a phone. Its screen, while useful for quick glances at time and pace, is small. For a larger display, the Fitbit Sense 2—currently on sale for £122.05, down from £219.99—is a premium alternative.
The Inspire 3's £68 deal is limited to the Black tracker with a Lilac Bliss band. Other colour variants are priced higher: all-black at £84 and orange strap at £82.32. The Fitbit Charge 6, which adds built-in GPS, is also on sale for £79.99.
Subscription and Value
Both trackers work without a subscription, though optional Google Health Premium (£7.99/month) unlocks an AI Coach and additional features. Henry Burrell, who reviewed the Fitbit Air, noted, “At £84.99, it’s a good deal, but I still believe the Inspire 3 is a better buy because it offers everything the Air does, plus a screen.” The £68 price for the Inspire 3 on Amazon may change at any time.
