Chelsea Target Como's Jacobo Ramon After January Interest
Chelsea Still Keen on Jacobo Ramon After January Interest

Chelsea are pursuing a deal for Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon this summer, with the 21-year-old featuring prominently on their transfer shortlist. The Blues had previously monitored Ramon during the January window and have now revived their interest under incoming manager Xabi Alonso.

Defensive Reinforcements Sought

Despite boasting a wealth of central defensive options including Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoît Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Josh Acheampong, Chelsea are keen to add another centre-back. Former manager Enzo Maresca was reportedly frustrated at the failure to sign a central defender during his tenure, and the club have now made it a priority for the summer window.

Ramon's Rise in Italy

Ramon joined Como from Real Madrid last summer for just €2.5 million (£2.15 million), having made six senior appearances for the Spanish giants and scoring once in La Liga. The 6'5" defender quickly established himself in Serie A, making 37 appearances across all competitions for Como. Under the management of Cesc Fabregas, Ramon played a key role as Como qualified for the Champions League next season.

The Spain Under-21 international was part of the squad that won the Under-19 European Championship in 2024. His performances have attracted attention from several top clubs, with Chelsea now leading the chase.

Transfer Complications

Real Madrid hold a 50 per cent sell-on clause in Ramon's contract, which will affect any transfer fee. Como are expected to demand a significant profit on their initial investment, but the sell-on clause means they will only retain half of the proceeds. The Italian side are nonetheless likely to make a substantial profit on the defender.

Other targets from January have moved elsewhere: Jeremy Jacquet agreed a move to Liverpool from Rennes, while Marcos Senesi joined Tottenham from Bournemouth on a free transfer.
