Celtic Eye Gineitis as Potential Engels Replacement

Celtic have been linked with a move for Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis, with the Scottish Premiership champions reportedly viewing the 22-year-old as a potential successor to Arne Engels. The club's record signing has attracted interest from several top European leagues, including the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A, with Nottingham Forest having a £25 million bid rejected by Celtic in January.

Gineitis Attracts Interest from Bundesliga

The Lithuania international, who has scored five goals in 29 appearances for his country, also has admirers in the Bundesliga. However, according to the Scottish Sun, Celtic have identified him as a prime target to bolster their midfield options this summer.

Gineitis joined Torino from fellow Italian club SPAL in 2022, having started his career in Lithuania with NFA Kaunas and Atmosfera. He has made 80 appearances for Torino, missing only three matches last season as the team finished 12th in Serie A.

Agent Confirms Openness to Offers

The player's representative, Dmitry Vinokurov, stated that Gineitis is excited to work under new Torino head coach Ignacio Abate, a former AC Milan defender, but is open to considering offers from interested clubs. Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, Vinokurov said: "Gvidas is motivated by the opportunity to work with a new coach. Every coach brings different ideas, expectations, and methods, and for a young player, that's always valuable."

He added: "Gvidas is very ambitious, always looking to improve, and sees each new coaching staff as an opportunity to develop different aspects of his game. Torino holds Gvidas in high regard and believes in his future. The player has steadily improved within the club and is considered an important part of the project. At the same time, Gvidas is ambitious, as any player competing at this level should be."

Potential Move to Celtic

Vinokurov acknowledged that there have been expressions of interest from other clubs, saying: "If an interesting offer were to arrive for both Torino and Gvidas, it would certainly be carefully evaluated." With Celtic keen to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season, Gineitis could be a key addition as they look to maintain their dominance in Scottish football and make an impact in European competitions.
