Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) has partnered with Bolt to introduce dedicated parking bays for its shared e-scooters and e-bikes, offering staff and passengers a fast and sustainable way to travel to and from the airport. The new bays are located close to the main employee site entrance, within the free drop-off/pick-up public car park.
Bolt's Liverpool Expansion
Bolt launched its Liverpool-wide e-scooter and e-bike service earlier this year, bringing shared mobility to south Liverpool for the first time. The fleet includes 2,000 e-scooters and 150 e-bikes covering the entire city, including Speke and Garston. The new parking bay at LJLA provides a dedicated area for users traveling light.
Early Shift Solution
With the first flights from LJLA typically departing around 6am year-round, check-in, security, operations, and retail colleagues must be on-site well before public transport begins. Currently, staff working early shifts often have no option other than driving or taking a taxi. Bolt's e-scooters and e-bikes operate 24/7, offering an affordable, low-emission alternative that aligns with the airport's commitments to improving public transport access for both passengers and employees.
Robin Tudor, LJLA’s head of PR and communications, said: “Staff working on shifts here that start and end outside of public transport operating hours are always looking for transport alternatives, particularly if they don’t have access to a car and so we are really pleased to be working with Bolt to help resolve some of these issues.”
Passenger Benefits
Passengers can also use the dedicated bays, providing a last-mile option between the airport and surrounding neighbourhoods for those traveling light. By working with Liverpool John Lennon Airport to install dedicated parking bays, we're giving staff a reliable, affordable way to start and end their day, and offering passengers a sustainable last-mile option.”
Sustainable Features and Research
The e-scooters and e-bikes available at the airport are part of Bolt's wider Liverpool fleet, which includes the UK's first solar-assisted shared e-bikes, distance-based pricing to encourage slower and safer riding, and industry-leading safety features such as AI-powered parking validation and a pre-ride test to prevent drunk riding. Research commissioned by Bolt in the UK shows that four in ten e-bike users ride to train stations or other transport hubs, while more than a third use e-bikes for commuting to work, highlighting the role shared micro mobility can play in connecting people to key destinations.
The Liverpool John Lennon Airport partnership underlines Bolt's continued investment in sustainable urban transport across the UK and follows the company's wider Liverpool launch earlier this year.
