Mikel Arteta is orchestrating a major squad overhaul at Arsenal, with eight players having left the club and six potential new signings being pursued. The Gunners are preparing to defend their Premier League title, a challenge they have not faced in two decades.
Eight Players Depart the Emirates
On July 1, eight players officially left Arsenal upon the expiration of their contracts. The club had previously announced plans to release several academy prospects, and those plans were finalised. The departing players are Sam Chapman, Harrison Dudziak, Seb Ferdinand, Cam'ron Ismail, Will Lannin-Sweet, Josh Nichols, Samuel Onyekachukwu and Alexei Rojas-Fedorushchenko. Nichols has secured a move to Croatia, while Chapman has joined a club in the United States. The futures of the remaining six are uncertain.
In addition to these releases, defender Jakub Kiwior has completed a permanent transfer to Porto following a loan spell last season, and goalkeeper Karl Hein has moved to Werder Bremen under similar circumstances.
Six Transfers Being Worked On
Arsenal have made one signing so far this summer, acquiring Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen for £34.5 million after a successful loan. However, director Andrea Berta and head of scouting Maurizio Micheli are reportedly working on six additional deals. According to the Daily Mail, Berta typically handles multiple negotiations simultaneously, casting a wide net before narrowing his focus.
Key targets include Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers and Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola to strengthen the left wing. Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli have been linked with exits. Bayer Leverkusen's Kerim Alajbegovic and Greece international Christos Tzolis, who was offered to Arsenal by Genk, are also under consideration.
In midfield, Bournemouth's Alex Scott and Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes are leading candidates. Arsenal have reportedly submitted two rejected offers for Guimaraes, the second worth £55 million.
