Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Welsh wonderkid Axel Donczew. The 16-year-old attacking midfielder is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in Welsh football after becoming the youngest player to represent Cardiff City's first-team last October.
Donczew made his debut in Cardiff's EFL Trophy defeat to Newport County, coming on as a substitute aged just 15 years and 234 days. He later featured again in a 5-1 loss to AFC Wimbledon, replacing fellow countryman Troy Perrett in the second half.
Move to Arsenal confirmed
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have agreed a deal for Donczew and the player has already completed his medical. Arsenal are expected to officially confirm the signing in due course, with the Wales Under-19 international set to join the club's Hale End academy.
Donczew, who has represented Wales from Under-15 to Under-19 level, is also eligible to play for Poland.
Arsenal's summer business
The move comes after Arsenal missed out on a deal for Leicester's Jeremy Monga. The Gunners had pursued the 17-year-old winger but refused to meet the Foxes' £10million asking price, and Monga subsequently joined Manchester City.
Donczew follows Elijah Upson, son of former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson, who left Tottenham to join Arsenal earlier this month. Mikel Arteta's side have also added free agent Illan Meslier and Christos Tzolis, who arrived from Club Brugge for around £34m last week. The reigning English champions made Piero Hincapie's move from Bayer Leverkusen permanent last month, activating a £35m option following an initial loan.
