Frozen food firm Quality Bites collapses after 13 years

Quality Bites, a West Midlands-based halal frozen food brand, has ceased trading after entering voluntary liquidation, ending supply to more than 1,000 independent supermarkets across the UK.

The company, founded in May 2013, offered a range of products including samosas, kebabs and crispy chicken. It described itself as "one of the leading manufacturers of ethnic foods in the UK".

Liquidation and Liquidator Appointment

The firm was voluntarily wound up on October 7, according to The Gazette. Deviesh Raikundalia of Hall Chadwick (UK) Limited has since been appointed as liquidator.

The resolutions for winding-up and notices to creditors were published by The Gazette on October 22.

Impact on Retailers and Wider Business Climate

Quality Bites worked alongside retailers, wholesalers and distributors across the country, supplying products to more than 1,000 independent supermarkets and grocery stores.

The closure comes during a turbulent year for British businesses. High street names such as Claire's and Quiz have been forced to shut all their remaining stores after falling into administration this year.

Major hospitality firm Whitbread, which also runs Premier Inn, closed all its standalone branded restaurants across the UK last month, including Brewers Fayre and Beefeater. On Monday, September 7, all 89 Brewers Fayre restaurants shut their doors, and all 106 Beefeater restaurants followed days later.

Over 100 of those locations have now been saved and will be rebranded after hospitality companies Queensway Inn and Common Table Group bought a combined total of 110 former Whitbread sites in October.
