Dragons' Den Reject Lucie MacLeod Set to Make £10 Million

From Dragons' Den Rejection to Multi-Million Pound Success

Lucie MacLeod, a 26-year-old entrepreneur, has revealed that despite being rejected by all six investors on BBC's Dragons' Den, her business Hair Syrup is projected to generate a staggering £10 million in revenue by 2028. This remarkable turnaround highlights how a televised setback can transform into a lucrative opportunity.

The Pitch That Left the Dragons Cold

In 2024, MacLeod appeared on Dragons' Den seeking £190,000 in exchange for a three percent stake in Hair Syrup, valuing her company at £6.5 million. She informed the dragons that the business had already achieved £4.5 million in sales during the most recent financial year. The pitch quickly turned awkward as the investors scrutinised her finances.

Touker Suleyman made an offer that he later retracted, describing it as making MacLeod feel "uncomfortable." He stated, "I don't want to take away 3% for nothing from your business so I'm out." MacLeod reflected that the adrenaline had drained from her by that point, leaving her exhausted, though she noted the situation appeared worse on television than in reality.

The Viral Origins of Hair Syrup

Hair Syrup originated from MacLeod's personal struggle with damaged hair as a teenager. She began crafting homemade treatments using natural ingredients like avocado and eggs. The business gained traction after a TikTok video went viral, proving there was substantial market demand for her products.

Despite the dragons' rejection, Steven Bartlett assured MacLeod that appearing on the show would serve as an invaluable stepping stone. He predicted her "life was going to change" and her "name was going to be out there," advice she initially doubted but later acknowledged as prophetic.

Post-Show Boom and Recognition

Since her Dragons' Den episode aired, Hair Syrup has experienced a 66 percent surge in sales. MacLeod, who once hoped to sell just 20 bottles, has now sold over a million units. This growth has not only solidified her brand but also elevated her status in the entrepreneurial community.

MacLeod recently celebrated being included in Forbes's prestigious 30 Under 30 list, a milestone that underscores her rapid ascent. Steven Bartlett showed support by leaving a heart emoji on her Instagram post announcing the achievement.

Reflecting on her journey, MacLeod admitted, "It completely transformed my life, turning me from this nobody really who has a brand, and I was just the person who owned it, and it's evened out now and I’ve become just as relevant in the entrepreneurial space as the brand."

Dragons' Den continues to air on BBC One and is available for streaming on iPlayer, serving as a platform where rejection can sometimes pave the way for unprecedented success.
