Wimbledon Restaurant Sells £15.95 Wine at £6.95 Due to Printing Error
Wimbledon Restaurant Sells Wine at Bargain Price After Error

A printing error at the Centenary Brasserie, overlooking court 11 at the All England Club, led to two white wines being offered at less than half price. The mistake saw large glasses of Piquepoul/Terret Blanc from France listed at £6.95 instead of their correct price of £15.95. The same error affected a 250ml glass of Thirsty Birds Chardonnay from England, which also sold at the printed price.

Bosses Honored the Mistaken Price

Bumbling bosses at the posh restaurant decided to honor the erroneous price, prompting customers to flock for the bargain. One diner reported confusion after noticing the discrepancy on their bill. They told the Daily Mail: "They tried to charge us £15.95 for the wine. I told them it was listed at £6.95. They removed it off the bill after taking ages. Then the waitress said it had been an issue all day with the menu, which also didn't even have the starters listed."

Staff and Management Reaction

A member of staff acknowledged the issue, stating: "The prices should be around £14 for a big glass but it takes too much time to explain to people [why there is a different price]. We think we're getting new menus tomorrow." Michelle Dite, head of Operations at Wimbledon, defended the error, telling the Mail: "Every day there's a couple of little things, marginal gains overnight to fix bits and pieces for the next day. We have lot of menus around the place, and we pride ourselves on detail, but you know we've got hundreds of chefs, hundreds of restaurants, we've got multiple outlets, so there's always some little things that [are missed]. But I'm sure it'll be fixed for today."

Rare Bargain at Posh Venue

The price mix-up provided a rare bit of good value for punters faced with eye-watering food and drink prices at the Championships. A glass of Pimm's costs £13.45 – up £1.20 on last year – while strawberries and cream have risen to £2.85. Buying the two together now costs £16.30. A pint of draught Stella Artois will set drinkers back £8.95.
