Wickes Unveils Major Expansion Strategy Across the UK
Home improvement retailer Wickes has announced a bold and ambitious plan to significantly grow its national presence, targeting a network of 300 stores throughout the United Kingdom. This expansion is set to create more than 2,000 new jobs, marking a substantial investment in the retail sector and local economies.
Accelerated Store Openings and Refurbishments
The company intends to open four to five new outlets this year, with plans to accelerate the pace to at least 10 stores annually starting from 2028. In addition to new openings, Wickes will refresh and upgrade its existing sites to enhance customer experience and maintain competitiveness in the market.
Robust Financial Performance Fuels Growth
This expansion follows impressive financial results for the year ending 27 December. Underlying pre-tax profits surged by 14.4 per cent to £49.9 million, while sales increased by 5.9 per cent. Statutory pre-tax profits more than doubled to £48.7 million, demonstrating strong performance despite ongoing cost pressures in the retail industry.
Share Buyback and Future Profit Expectations
Wickes also announced a £10 million share buyback programme, reflecting confidence in its financial health and commitment to shareholder value. The company remains on track to meet full-year expectations, with underlying pre-tax profits projected to reach £57.6 million in 2026.
The DIY boom has provided a solid foundation for this growth, as consumers continue to invest in home improvement projects. Wickes' strategic move aims to capitalise on this trend, positioning the retailer for long-term success in a competitive market.
