Where's Cool Map Helps Londoners Find Air-Conditioned Venues During Heatwave
Where's Cool Map Helps Londoners Find AC Venues in Heatwave

As London swelters in a heatwave with highs of 28°C predicted, a new interactive map called Where's Cool helps residents and visitors find restaurants, pubs, cafes, and bars equipped with air conditioning across the capital.

Over 1,000 Air-Conditioned Venues Mapped

Where's Cool maps out each venue with air conditioning across England and Wales, drawing data from public MHCLG Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and user confirmations. The map currently lists more than 1,000 locations in London alone.

Creator's Inspiration

Thomas Chivers, creator of Where's Cool, said: “I created this map in May, in the middle of the first heatwave. I'm really glad I did, because we're now somehow on our third and it's only July. I needed to find somewhere cool to work because my flat was far too hot to work in.” He added that for those working from home without air conditioning, the map has become a necessity for finding laptop-friendly spots when temperatures exceed 30°C.

Additional Cooling Resources

Alongside Where's Cool, the Greater London Authority's “Cool Spaces” list provides shelters from the sun, including libraries, community centres, sports centres, and religious spaces. The GLA map also signposts drinking water stations for refilling bottles and staying hydrated during the heat.
