Wetherspoons is set to open ten new pubs across the UK before Christmas, with two of them in London. The chain, which already operates more than 800 pubs, will open new sites in key transport hubs and major cities.
London and Other Locations
In London, Piccadilly Hall in The Trocadero building is set to open in mid-October, while The Benjamin Franklin is due to open on The Strand in November. Other locations include Manchester Airport, as well as Edinburgh, Southampton, and Hull.
Wetherspoons has already opened several new pubs in 2026, including in Cornwall, Bath, and Blackpool. The Sir Frank Whittle inside Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 2 became the chain’s 10th airport pub when it opened in July.
International Expansion
Later this year, the chain will also open its second international venue, in Barcelona Airport in late November, following its first overseas venue at the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport in 2025.
JD Wetherspoon founder and chairman Tim Martin told the Morning Advertiser: “We are looking forward to opening a number of new pubs across England, Scotland and Spain. We look forward to opening more pubs throughout 2027 and beyond.”
Meta Glasses Ban
Meanwhile, Wetherspoons has announced that customers can no longer wear Meta Glasses at any of its UK venues. The devices, which can record video, photos, and audio, have raised privacy concerns due to their ability to film without drawing attention.
A Wetherspoons spokesperson said: "Like many hospitality companies, Wetherspoon has CCTV cameras for security reasons, but their use is strictly controlled by data legislation. Apart from that, the general code that applies in our pubs, and most pubs, is that you can’t film customers or employees without their permission. Meta glasses seem to breach this code, and common sense, by enabling surreptitious surveillance, so our instinct is to say turn off the cameras. This is akin to our efforts to stop audible playing of videos in our pubs, which also invades people’s space."
