Japanese chain Wasabi is handing out free meals this week as part of International Sushi Day. The company is introducing 'British Sushi Time' this summer to motivate workers to step away from their screens, as nearly half of UK workers eat their lunch 'al desko'.
Workers Skipping Screen Breaks
According to YouGov, 46% of UK workers typically eat their lunch at their desks or at work, missing out on a crucial screen break and the chance to enjoy sunshine. With lunch increasingly squeezed between meetings and emails, venturing outside for a break with colleagues is becoming rare.
Wasabi's British Sushi Time Initiative
Wasabi's Sushi and Bento introduction of British Sushi Time (BST) aims to address this trend and inspire Britons to exchange 'al desko' for al fresco dining. The chain has launched the Sushi Alfresco Meal Deal for two, which includes two large sushi sets, two onigiris, and two waters, priced at £22.
Free Meal Deal Offer
To mark International Sushi Day on June 18, Wasabi is distributing over 1,000 complimentary meal deals to customers who visit participating stores between 11am and 3pm wearing salmon pink with a companion.
Wasabi's Marketing Director, Mays Elansari, said: "Brits are obsessed with making the most of the summer, but too often that 'hour in the sun' ends up spent at our desks. There is a real gap between what we intend to do and what we actually do at lunchtime. That's why we created the Sushi Alfresco Meal Deal for Two to help close that gap. It gives people a simple excuse to step away from their screens, head outside and properly enjoy lunch together."
