Vinted buyer baffled after receiving corn toy instead of Hollister top
Vinted buyer baffled after receiving corn toy instead of Hollister top

A woman who ordered a secondhand Hollister top from Vinted was left baffled when she opened her parcel and found a cuddly toy shaped like an ear of corn instead.

Jem posted a video on TikTok showing herself opening a package she believed contained the top she had bought from a seller on the platform. Alarm bells started ringing when she opened the plastic packing bag to find a white paper bag inside, and things got more confusing when she opened the second part of the package.

Confusion over unexpected delivery

Instead of a Hollister top, Jem found herself staring at a corn Jellycat toy. She said: "I'm extremely confused. What's happening? This is supposed to be a cute top from Hollister that I was planning to take on holiday when I go on holiday in a few days. This is not a cute top from Hollister, this is a corn Jellycat."

Jem said this had never happened to her before, and she was unsure what to do next, especially as she was due to go on holiday in a few days and now had no top to take with her, with little time to dispute the order with the seller.

Refund process explained

In the caption, the woman said she had "submitted a review" with Vinted to try to get her money back as she did not receive what she had ordered, but she has not posted a follow-up video to share how that process went.

Commenters on her post urged her to message the seller immediately, as there was a chance they had simply mixed up the labels and accidentally sent the Hollister top to whoever ordered the toy. Others said she did the right thing by contacting Vinted themselves to get a refund. Vinted does not handle sales itself on its platform, but it does handle complaints and will process refunds.

When you buy something from Vinted, you have two days to inspect your item once it arrives, and you must check a box that says "everything is okay" in order to release the money to the seller. If you open a complaint instead, you may have to prove with photos that your item arrived damaged or wasn't what you ordered, and Vinted staff will then assess whether to issue you a refund or not.

Commenters share similar experiences

One commenter told Jem: "This happened to me as a SELLER! I'm a fool and mixed up two labels. Both buyers were lovely and let me pay for new shipping labels, and both shipped each other their parcels."

Another said: "That must have been a mistake! It even has tags." A third posted: "You'll get to keep it and get your money back, but the Hollister top is long gone. I was supposed to receive some brand new gym leggings, and instead I got 13 DVDs. I got to keep them and got my money back."
