Joanna's Boutique Tearoom Ltd, a family-run British tea shop business, has collapsed into administration after more than a decade in operation. The company, which operates tearooms in West Sussex and Surrey, appointed administrators on August 24, according to an official notice published in The Gazette.
Sean Bucknall and Marc Norman, of business advisory firm Quantuma, have been appointed as joint administrators. The company's principal trading address is listed as Riverside House on High Street in Storrington, West Sussex.
Family business since 2015
Joanna's Boutique Tearoom was founded by Joanna and Luca, who opened their first site in Storrington in December 2015 after turning what the company describes as a long-held dream into reality. The family business later expanded beyond its original West Sussex home following the success of the first tearoom.
A second Joanna's Boutique Tearoom was opened in Cranleigh, Surrey, inside the historic Manns building on the high street. The company describes itself as a "close-knit family team" and has become known for its afternoon teas, as well as serving breakfast and lunch.
Expansion and services
It also offers private events and external catering for occasions including weddings, hen parties, birthdays, baby showers and christenings. The business expanded again in 2024 when Joanna and Luca began operating The Mowing Shed Cafe at Parham House and Gardens in Pulborough, West Sussex.
The seasonal cafe opens between April and October and serves both sweet and savoury food to visitors at the historic estate. On its website, the company says customers travel from across Sussex and Surrey, as well as further afield, to visit its tearooms.
Administration details
Joanna's also operates an online shop selling homeware and gift vouchers. The administration comes more than 10 years after Joanna and Luca opened their first tearoom.
The Gazette notice confirms the company's registered office is in the process of being changed to the Brighton address of Quantuma following the appointment of the administrators.
