UK supermarket opening hours for August bank holiday 2026

Supermarkets across the UK have revealed their opening hours for the August bank holiday, with most large stores closing earlier than usual. Shoppers are advised to check their local branch, as times vary by store.

Lidl and M&S

Lidl branches outside the M25 and in Wales will have reduced hours, opening between 8am and 8pm. Stores in London and Scotland will remain open as usual, with most closing at around 10pm or later.

Marks & Spencer opening times will vary by store. Some larger branches will operate as normal, while others, including many M&S foodhalls, will close slightly earlier than usual.

Tesco, Aldi, and Morrisons

Tesco has confirmed all its large stores will close by 6pm. A few Express shops, mostly in central London, will also close at 6pm, while others across the UK are expected to run as normal.

Aldi stores will operate with reduced hours, opening at 8am and closing between 8pm and 10pm, depending on the store. Morrisons' large stores will mostly be open between 7am and 8pm, while its Daily shops will remain open as normal.

Sainsbury's, Co-op, Asda, and Waitrose

Sainsbury's larger shops and their Argos branches will close early, with most operating between 7 or 8am and 8pm. Its smaller Local shops will remain open as normal.

Co-op branches will open as normal, with stores shutting late and a few operating for 24 hours. Asda large stores will be open between 8am and 10pm, with Asda Living closing slightly earlier. Asda Express shops will remain open as normal, and Express Petrol stores will operate 24 hours. Waitrose will close the majority of its large shops earlier, while Little Waitrose stores will operate as normal.
