Autumn has officially arrived, bringing darker, cooler days and the perfect excuse to turn on the oven. The Observer Food Monthly has curated a list of 20 seasonal baking recipes from renowned chefs and cookery writers, featuring both sweet and savoury delights.
Among the sweet treats, Nigella Lawson offers a rich plum and pecan crumble, while Benjamina Ebuehi suggests pumpkin spice coffee scones. Helen Goh’s luxurious burnt honey cake with apple and ginger is also featured, as is Claire Ptak’s perfect pear eve’s pudding and Nigel Slater’s browned butter, blackberry and hazelnut friands.
For savoury options, Gill Meller presents a wild mushroom tart, and Liberty Mendez shares her hog-roast sausage rolls, with the secret being apple sauce. Joe Trivelli’s fig pudding rounds out the selection, alongside other vegetable-based bakes made with ginger and panch phoron spices.
The collection celebrates the flavours of the season, encouraging home bakers to embrace autumn’s bounty. Full recipes are available in the OFM autumn baking feature.
