The Works, a leading UK value retailer, has confirmed it will open a new store in Kirkby town centre this month. The store will be located at 22 St Chad’s Parade, occupying the former New Look unit that closed in January. Internal fit-out works have already begun, and the store is set to open its doors on Thursday, August 27.
Product range and portfolio
The new store will offer an extensive range of affordable books, arts and crafts, toys, games, stationery, and family gifts. It will become part of The Works' growing portfolio of over 500 stores.
Council welcomes addition
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, expressed delight at welcoming The Works to Kirkby town centre. He noted that consultations with local residents showed a desire for a diverse offer in the town, and The Works will be a welcome new addition.
Brennan highlighted that high streets across the country are changing, and Kirkby's town centre offers a wide variety of traditional retail as well as family-friendly activities, childcare providers, places to meet, learn new skills, and take part in activities such as Pilates. He also mentioned the second phase of retail commencing, with Lidl constructing a store on Telegraph Way.
“It really is an exciting time for Kirkby, and I look forward to seeing The Works progressing and opening in the town shortly,” Brennan said.
Company expansion
The Works opened one of its latest stores at Belle Vale Shopping Centre on August 6. Debbie Jamieson, Chief People and Retail Officer at The Works, said the company is delighted to bring a new store to the area, giving families another place to find great-value books, crafts, and activities.

Founded in 1981, The Works offers books, stationery, gifts, and games. Its Merseyside locations include Liverpool city centre, Birkenhead, Liverpool Shopping Park, Bootle, and Croft Retail Park.
