Tesco Enlists 280,000 Employees in Groundbreaking AI Assistant Trial

Tesco, the UK supermarket giant, has initiated a major trial of an innovative AI assistant designed to revolutionise how customers plan meals and manage their grocery shopping. Approximately 280,000 Tesco employees are currently testing the new tool, which leverages their Clubcard purchase data, ahead of an anticipated full-scale launch to all customers later this year.

Personalised Features and Development

The AI assistant promises to deliver highly personalised recipe suggestions, taking into account individual dietary preferences and restrictions. Users will be able to generate recipes based on specific criteria such as cost, cuisine type, or ingredients they already have available at home. This feature aims to streamline meal preparation and reduce food waste by making the most of existing pantry items.

Developed in collaboration with UK-based consultancy Tomoro AI, in alliance with OpenAI, the AI assistant will be seamlessly integrated into the existing Tesco app. This integration ensures that customers can access the tool conveniently alongside their regular shopping activities.
