Tesco has advised shoppers to check its opening times over the New Year period, as the supermarket's hours will be slightly different this week as 2025 draws to a close. Opening times vary depending on location and store size, with the majority of larger stores expected to close early on Christmas Eve, many at 7pm.
All larger Tesco stores will remain closed on Christmas Day before reopening on Boxing Day, with most scheduled to open from 9am until 6pm on December 26. In addition, Tesco has confirmed that its larger stores will be open on New Year's Day but under reduced hours, typically from 9am to 6pm.
For smaller Tesco Express stores, the supermarket says they should be open as normal on New Year's Eve, meaning they will close at either 10pm or 11pm depending on the location. On New Year's Day, most Express stores will open slightly later at 8am, before closing at their normal time.
Customers are urged to check their local store online before making a journey to avoid arriving and finding it closed. The announcement comes as Tesco revealed a new three-year AI deal with French start-up Mistral AI to "bolster the use of artificial intelligence" across the company.
The partnership will see the two businesses collaborate through a joint "AI lab", where Mistral AI and Tesco technology experts will work on content development, data analysis, and developing new ways for colleagues to access information to help customers. Tesco already uses AI for efficient routing of online orders, forecasting product availability, and personalisation through its Tesco Clubcard.
