Supermarkets including Tesco, Aldi and Lidl will change their opening hours for the August Bank Holiday on Monday, August 31. Many stores will remain open, but some will operate reduced schedules, and shoppers are being urged to check times before travelling.
Which stores stay open?
Tesco stores will largely remain open on Bank Holiday Monday, although opening hours will depend on the type of branch and location. Many larger Tesco stores are expected to operate reduced hours, while a number of smaller Express shops will remain open later.
Aldi will also welcome customers on Monday, with many branches expected to open between 8am and 8pm. Shoppers should check their nearest branch using the supermarket's online store finder before setting off, as opening and closing times can differ between locations.
Lidl hours vary by branch
Lidl stores will also remain open across the Bank Holiday, but hours will vary depending on the branch. Some locations are operating reduced hours. For example, Lidl's Hedon Road store in Hull is listed as opening from 8am until 8pm on Monday, compared with a 10pm closing time the following day.
Other branches are keeping longer hours, with Lidl's Putney High Street store listed as open from 7am until 11pm on Bank Holiday Monday.
Other supermarkets and normal hours resume Tuesday
Other major supermarkets including Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose are also expected to remain open, although some branches will run on reduced schedules. Shoppers should check individual store opening times online before making a journey, particularly later in the evening. Opening hours can also differ for petrol stations, pharmacies and other services located inside or alongside larger supermarkets.
Normal opening times are expected to resume for most stores from Tuesday, September 1.
