Tesco has announced the addition of eight new wines to its Finest range, with the supermarket saying they will be in stores "shortly". The move reflects a growing hunger among customers for new and lesser-known styles of wine, according to the retailer.
New additions to the range
The new wines include Tesco Finest Alentejo Tinto (£9), Tesco Finest Garnacha Campo De Borja D.O. (£8.50), Tesco Finest Grüner Veltliner (£11), Tesco Finest Xinomavro (£12), Tesco Finest Langhe Nebbiolo (£12), Tesco Finest Mâcon-Villages Chardonnay (£11), Tesco Finest Fleurie (£12), and Tesco Finest South African Sauvignon Blanc (£8.75).
Highlights from the new wines
The Tesco Finest Alentejo Tinto comes from vines nestled among ancient cork trees on the slopes of the Portalegre sub-region, from the prestigious Quinta da Fonte Souto. It is described as a powerful, balanced wine, thanks to its production away from scorching heat and its high altitude.
The Tesco Finest Garnacha Campo De Borja D.O. comes from the rugged, sun-drenched vineyards of Campo de Borja. It is described as an "ultra-modern expression of Garnacha from the masters at Bodegas Borsao", complete with "vibrant layers of red berries and violet", which lead to a "juicy, energetic finish which benefits from being lightly chilled".
The Tesco Finest Grüner Veltliner is produced by respected winemaker Nikolaus Moser. The organic wine comes from the rolling vineyards that line the Danube in Niederösterreich, where warm days and cool nights "preserve freshness while developing depth and texture".
Wine fans will also be eager to try the Tesco Finest Xinomavro, which is grown at high altitudes around the lakes of the Amyndeon plateau. It is described as an elegant wine with noticeable structure and freshness.
