The Mill House in Birtley, Gateshead, is set to reopen after being taken over by Durham Hospitality Group. The pub, which has been closed for a while, will enter a new era under new management.
New owners plan spruce-up
Durham Hospitality Group announced the acquisition on Facebook, stating: 'We are pleased to announce Durham Hospitality have acquired The Mill House at Birtley. We will be opening in a few weeks once we’ve spruced up the pub. We are looking forward to welcoming customers new and old.'
The group already runs venues including the Chester Moor in Chester-le-Street, The New Board Inn in County Durham, and The Shakespeare in Durham city centre.
Regulars share hopes
Former customers have expressed hopes for the pub's future. One wrote: 'Please let it be a proper pub this time round and not food, food, food. Bar area used to be the place to be once upon a time where you could stand on a Friday night and have a great time.'
Another commented: 'Hope yous make it a destination pub...used to love the music events,' while a third added: 'Good food, good music, with good service you will be onto a winner.'
The Mill House was previously known for live music nights. Its last Facebook post in February advertised Sunday dinners, but the pub had since closed.
