Russell & Bromley administration: £37.5m owed, stores shut

Russell & Bromley has collapsed into administration, with unsecured creditors owed £37.5 million, according to a progress report compiled by administrators Interpath. The footwear chain has closed all but three of its flagship stores, which have since passed into new ownership.

Administration and store closures

Administrators were appointed on January 21, with the report covering the period through to July 20. Fashion giant Next acquired the brand in January 2026.

The report states: "Based on current estimates, we anticipate that unsecured creditors may receive a dividend." The precise dividend figure is yet to be confirmed, hinging on the "realisation of assets and payment of associated assets".

Creditor claims

Ordinary preferential creditor claims stand at approximately £134,000, while secondary preferential creditor HMRC is owed £2.8 million. Both creditors are expected to be "paid in full" when it is "reasonably practicable" to do so.

Meanwhile, sole secured creditor NatWest bank is reportedly owed nothing outstanding.
