Cardiff City's Roko Simic Set for Loan Move to FC Magdeburg
Roko Simic Set for Loan Move to FC Magdeburg

Roko Simic is set to leave Cardiff City this summer, following an agreement with 2. Bundesliga side FC Magdeburg close to completion.

The deal struck between the Bluebirds and the German team is reported by Sky Sports Germany as a loan with an option to buy, with the player already at his potential new club, awaiting a medical.

However, although a basic agreement has been made between the two clubs, the deal isn’t fully completed, with the exact structure and details of the move still needing to be discussed.

Simic's Previous Stint in Germany

Simic, 22, still looks set to return to Germany, after playing his football at Karlsruher SC in the 2. Bundesliga last season.

The Croatian struggled during his time at the Wildparkstadion, as he was only able to bag three goals during his 28 appearances for the German outfit.

After signing for the Bluebirds in the summer of 2024, the striker is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Welsh side.

Pecking Order and Future Prospects

In a Brian Barry-Murphy-managed squad, Simic has found himself way down the pecking order, with many players ahead of him in the eyes of the Cardiff boss.

The forward didn’t feature in any of Cardiff’s first team’s pre-season matches and wasn’t included in the Welsh side’s Carabao Cup matchday squad against Swindon Town or Championship opener against Wrexham, but instead has been playing with the under-21s.

He still has two years left on his deal at Cardiff, which runs up until the summer of 2028.

The former Croatian under-21s international will hope that another chance in Germany can help reignite a career that has seemingly stagnated over the last few seasons.

FC Magdeburg's Current Situation

FC Magdeburg finished 14th in the 2. Bundesliga last campaign and started this season with heavy 6-1 defeat at home against Braunschweig, before getting their first points on the board away at Osnabruck.

Now they will look to the services of Simic to aid them up front, while the Bluebirds will hope for a positive loan move.
